Balfour Beatty opportunities for PFA members

Olympic Stadium

The PFA are working with Balfour Beatty, the UK’s largest infrastructure company to give PFA members the opportunity transfer their skills into the world of construction and project management.

Balfour Beatty, founded in 1909, is the UK’s largest infrastructure company and designs, builds, finances and maintains social infrastructure across the UK and in the US, Middle East and Hong Kong and have been responsible for a number of iconic buildings – including the recent conversion of the Olympic Stadium in London – and build hospitals, schools, offices, retail, roads, bridges, power transmission, gas and water infrastructure and rail.

We have an annual intake of new talent and are always looking for ambitious, high-performing and committed people to join the business in a variety of entry roles and develop their careers with us.

We are now developing a relationship with the PFA because we believe that many of the skills and behaviours developed in football are transferable to our world of construction and project management.  These skills and behaviours include teamwork, leadership, commitment and resilience.

We have career opportunities – with full training including apprenticeships – in the construction and engineering trades such as electrical, pipefitting and rail engineering - but also in technical, professional and managerial routes such as civil engineering, site management and quantity surveying. These training schemes and roles are advertised on our website and entrance expectations for our apprenticeships are outlined on the website

To assist those preparing for their eventual transition from football or want to find out more about opportunities in the construction industry we are offering one and two-week work experience placements in the summer between mid-May and the end of June.  These placements are available across the UK and in a variety of occupations and could assist you in finding out which career would suit you best. These placements would be fully supervised and structured around your aspirations and would be based on one of our project sites or in a regional office.

To apply for work experience please send a CV and covering letter – stating the occupation/career that you are interested in and where in the UK you would like the placement to be – to by Friday 17 April.
